Paris born, Tokyo raised NYC/Berlin based international eclectic french DJ, music producer, sound designer and phonon International Representative.
Having lived in Tokyo more than 20 years since he was a child, Alex developed into one of the strongest crossover DJ’s in the city in the 90s and also became a key person connecting the world and Japan (F Communications Japan representative, Mr.Bongo/Disorient Japan, Yellow Productions/Bossa Tres Jazz project co-ordinator).
Alex has been active producing music under the name Tokyo Black Star since the late 90s in Tokyo with his partner Isao Kumano and now with their 3rd member Kenichi Takagi, releasing original material on Alex’s world famous label, on the Berlin based label Innervisions, on DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted House Music Records and remixing artists like Tony Allen, Carl Craig, Phenomenal Handclap Band, Kuniyuki and Bing Ji Ling.
Alex still travels regularly to Japan every 3 months especially to play at his 18th year residency Sunday afternoon party “Gallery”, at CAY with Dj Nori, Kenji Hasegawa and Fukuba.
Besides the club scene, Alex has been doing music co-ordination, consulting and production work in fashion for international brands like Y-3 and Louis Vuitton. Always looking for new challenges and sonic adventures, the Tokyo Black Star duo started in 2010 a new audio brand called phonon (www.phonon-inc.com), which makes exceptional pro-audio equipment for studio and DJ use.
To keep things exciting, Alex re-launched from NYC his own record label “world famous” in November 2015 with a new Tokyo Black Star “Edo Express EP” as the 1st release and “Bing Ji Ling & Alex from Tokyo present” as its 2nd release in March 2016. Tokyo Black Star presented last summer 2016 their latest epic soundtrack album “Fantasy Live 1999”.
