Immersed in the house, hip hop and bass-heavy sounds that cross pollinate in South Africa’s burgeoning electronic music scene, Heather Mennell delved into Johannesburg’s world of music and events before she was legally allowed to be in a club.
South Africa is the world’s leading consumer of house music and her DJ sets reflect an obsession with the genre and everything connected to it. Heather began collecting vinyl in the late nineties and carved out a reputation for herself playing at parties and festivals and hosting a radio show. Her professional life revolved entirely around music too and she has taken on key roles in some of the country’s most significant record labels, clubs and music festivals. After a hiatus she landed a residency at one of downtown Johannesburg’s hippest spaces in 2014 and went on to co-manage the weekly club night for over 2 years.
Weekly sets sharpened her skills, redefined her style and introduced her sound to a whole new audience. Now based in London, her current sound flaunts a unique perpective owed to her upbringing and journeys. Prepare for an adventure into low slung, groove-heavy house tinted with drums and a touch of techno.
He prefers the low-profile, lo-fi approach to his work, but, with a career that’s 3 and a half decades young and still growing,
Brendon P has a long history of Clubs and Music.; starting out in 1980, in the local mobile circuit, and moving on to clubs a
year later. A visit to New York in 1984, and visiting clubs such as the Funhouse, the Paradise Garage, Dancetaria and Area
weaned him into the New York club culture, and into the music that was to become the house music that we hear today.
Crossing vast musical backgrounds over his years as a DJ, both locally and internationally, he continued to acquire a keen ear
and passion for dance music.
Now, on the team of Residents at the swanky CÉ LA VI, Singapore (formerly KU DE TA, Singapore) since january 2015, expect nothing less from him, than a set that crosses vast musical boundaries; past, present and future.
